Short answer: Agree five family rules โ keep personal details private, check before believing, be honest about AI use, take breaks, and always tell a grown-up if something feels wrong โ and set up devices so the rules are easy to follow.
The five family rules
- Private stays private: full name, address, school, phone, passwords and photos of people.
- Check before you believe or share: especially shocking videos and โfactsโ.
- Be honest: say when you used AI for schoolwork.
- Balance: agreed daily time, then off-screen play.
- Speak up: you'll never be in trouble for telling us something worrying.
Device set-up checklist
- Use child or family accounts with age settings on.
- Turn on safe-search and app-store age ratings.
- Keep younger children's devices in shared spaces.
- Review which apps can use the camera and microphone.
- Use the Family dashboard to set an EduOrvix daily goal and break reminders.
Deepfakes in one minute
AI can make convincing fake photos, voices and videos. Teach children three checks: Who posted it? Is a trusted news source reporting it? Does anything look odd โ blinking, lips, hands, lighting? When unsure, don't share.
Watch for
Secrets requested by online contacts, sudden changes in mood after device use, and requests for photos. If you're worried, talk calmly, save evidence and report to the platform and, where needed, the authorities.
